School Age Philosophy

Collierville Christian Academy is a Christian based program that is committed to enhance the overall well-being of children who attend our School Age Enrichment Programs (After School, Holidays, and Summer Camp).  Our program is designed to both enrich and complement the child’s school experience and; in the summer spend fun days with friends.  To that, we strive to provide:

1. A safe, healthy, dependable environment.
2. A capable, sensitive, caring and energetic staff who understands children’s needs in this environment and who take part in ongoing staff development.
3. Well organized, age appropriate activities, games, and materials in good condition for recreation and skill acquisition.
4. Realistic situations for (1) informal learning of new skills, (2) assuming some responsibilities for the school age environment, (3) dialogue, practice, and mastery of ways for getting along with other children and adults.
5. Recognition of children’s prior knowledge of the ways the community works, and fostering interest in continued investigations and enjoyment of the surrounding community (e.g. simple interpretation of rules which govern a community).
6. An extension of opportunities already provided by the school community for children of varying ages, different cultures and ethnic groups to live and learn together, and to increase parent’s understanding of our program’s commitment to principles of the school community.
7. We believe children are naturally curious about their bodies, and know that, through day-to-day interactions, questions and behaviors will arise.
8. We believe parents are their children’s most important teachers.
9. We believe our School Age Enrichment staff can be positive influences in supporting parents in this process.
